bus vannin
We operate a network of buses across the island getting residents and visitors where they need to be.
Heritage Railways
We are also custodians and operators of four heritage railways; the Manx Electric Railway, Snaefell Mountain Railway, Isle of Man Steam Railway, and the Douglas Bay Horse Tramway.
Passenger Figures
Bus passenger journeys exceed 3.7 million a year!
bus vannin passenger journeys | 2015 | 2016 | 2017 | 2018 | 2019 |
3,348,296 | 3,484,164 | 3,654,600 | 3,677,329 | 3,780,750 |
bus vannin had a fantastic year in 2019 with a 3% increase of passengers numbers compared to 2018. This is an especially good news story when you compare to the UK, where the local government association continue to report a drop in passenger numbers year on year. While bus patronage in England is down by 6.3% in five years, bus vannin has increased by 12.9% over the same time period.
National Highways and Transport Network (NHT) also carried out a Public Satisfaction survey, where local Bus Services received a 79% satisfaction, and when benchmarked against NHT average which was 60%. Whilst at bus vannin we strive higher, and are working on a number of incentives to make travelling by bus easier.
Fleet Information
Our bus fleet consists of a mix of single and double deck buses plus a number of Mercedes Benz Sprinter minibuses.
With the exception of the private hire Heritage Fleet, which includes AEC and Leyland double decker buses ranging from 1948 to 1967, all our modern buses meet the regulations set out in the Disability Discrimination Act and have engine exhaust emissions that meet the very latest EU Euro V or VI requirements.
